Artist Talk with Alexandria P. Clay

Mixed media artist Alexandria P. Clay discusses the process and themes of her work in Lost in Transition, an exhibition that celebrates the history of Black educators in Wilmington, N.C.

During the talk, Clay is in conversation with curator Michael S. Williams about the concept of memory and her fluid, expressive wet charcoal technique that allows her to convey how fleeting the most precious memories can sometimes feel. She also shares how the oral histories that helped inform the exhibition influenced her approach.

The Artist Talk was filmed and edited by Luke Mehaffie and Nicosia Merkerson from the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Gallery hours: Thursday & Friday, 3 to 7 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. The exhibition is on view until October 29, 2022.

This project is a partnership between consultant and Black On Black Project founder Michael S. Williams and the North Carolina Museum of Art. It is made possible through funding from the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust.
