Registration has ended.

Join the North Carolina Museum of Art on Saturday, May 6 for a conversation and book signing with North Carolina-based author and retired educator Bertha Boykin Todd. A longtime resident and school administrator in Wilmington, N.C., Todd will discuss her career — which began in 1952 — as an educator including working through desegregation in the 1960s and 1970s.

She will be in conversation with consultant and Black On Black Project founder Michael S. Williams, partner on the ongoing Lost in Transition project with the NCMA that celebrates the history of Black educators in North Carolina.

During the event Todd will also discuss her fifth book, Reflections on a Massacre and a Coup, which chronicles how community members came together in the mid-1990s to grapple with the events of 1898 in Wilmington. In Reflections, she recounts how the centennial commemoration unfolded, eventually leading to the creation of 1898 Memorial Park in 2008. Learn more about Ms. Todd at berthaboykintodd.com.

This program is in association with the Lost in Transition project, and attendees will get a free, signed copy of Todd's book and a box lunch from Jimmy John's following the conversation. Attendees will have a chance to chat more with her during lunch.

This event is free but registration is required. You can do that below. Upon registration, you will receive parking and entrance information.
